Chicken Karahi | Chicken Kadai Recipe

Chicken karahi is the most famous dish in both Pakistan and India. Karahi chicken is one of the most favorite dishes of all. In this post, I will tell you the easy and delicious recipe of chicken karahi. Perfect for your small gatherings and lunch/dinner! You will love this tasty recipe of chicken Kadai.

Before we move to the steps, let me tell you the tools/equipment and ingredients you will use.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg chicken
  • ½ cup oil
  • 3-4 tomatoes (chopped)
  • ½ cup yogurt
  • 1 tbsp. (tablespoon) ginger-garlic paste
  • 1+1/2 tsp. (teaspoon) black pepper powder
  • 2 tsp. crushed red chili
  • 2 tsp. Salt or to taste
  • ½ tsp. garam masala powder (it’s a hot spice mixture of cumin seed, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and black pepper)
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • Chopped ginger as you required for garnishing
  • 2 tbsp. green coriander (chopped) for garnishing
  • 3-4 green chilies (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp. fried onion (fries one small/medium onion and then chopped it)

Equipment:

Make sure you have the following equipment before you start making the chicken karahi:

  • Large Bowl
  • Non-stick Pan
  • Kitchen Knife
  • Chopping Board
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Grater (for ginger grating)
  • Garlic Crusher

Steps to Make Chicken Karahi:

  1. Take a bowl and add chicken, ginger-garlic paste, salt (as to taste), black pepper powder, lemon juice, yogurt, and mix well and marinates for 30 minutes.
  2. Take a pan over medium heat and add oil. Once the oil is a little hot, add tomatoes and fry them. Cover and cook for 4-5 minutes over medium heat.
  3. After 5 minutes, add crushed red chili and marinated chicken. Mix well and cover and cook for 10 minutes on medium flame.
  4. After 10 minutes, add some green coriander and green chili (keep some for garnishing), add some chopped ginger, fried onions, ½ tsp. garam masala powder, and mix well for 2-3 minutes.

Your delicious chicken karahi is ready now. Transfer the karahi to a serving bowl and garnish it with some coriander leaves, green chili, and ginger. Serve to family and guests with naan and enjoy!
